Grand Prize Winner: Rising Stars Competition
"And the winner is...THE LOST BOYS." Cheers erupted at Russian River Records in Ukiah when The Lost Boys were announced grand prize winner of The Rising Stars Competition. Co-sponsored by K-WINE Radio, the event played host to sixteen bands representing all genres of music from folk and reggae to rock 'n roll and metal. Winners were announced in four different groups--The Lost Boys taking 1st place in their division--as well as overall 3rd, 2nd & 1st place winners. Each band was judged on musicianship, stage presence and audience reaction.
In addition to receiving 2 trophies, The Lost Boys were also awarded 10 hours of recording studio time at Russian River Records, a Fender Amp from Roadhouse Music, and 6 months of airplay on K-WINE 94.5 fm radio.
Other highlights included musical entertainment by "II Big" and "Faded at Four" ("Faded..." being last year's grand-prize winner and one of TLB's favorite local bands). "We're grateful to Marty and the whole band of Faded at Four for helping sponsor this event, and we want to thank Cherie Sheraque & Lady J of K-WINE Radio," said lead singer, Beau, as he kicked off their set. "And a big thanks to II Big for this great studio to play in."
The Lost Boys opened with a dramatic 'chill-bump' performance of Styx' "Come Sail Away" , followed by an original tune, "Time", "Drops of Juniper" by Train, and closed with a rockin' "Johnny Be Good". Whether it was the commanding stage presence and passion-filled vocals of Beau, or the jaw-dropping jumping skills of keyboarder Matt that reached new heights to his piano rifts; or the charming theatrics and rapid-fire fingering of bass-player Tom, or the magical sticks of drummer JiJi (Jordan) that lays the foundational magic to every TLB tune, it was a synergestic show-stopper that won the hearts of the audience and judges alike.
"I've never seen a group of musicians at their age have SO MUCH talent," commented one judge. "They've renewed my hope, that a band this young can really have what it takes to 'go places' in this industry, and I know they're going places."
